Clinic for Anaesthesiology
Expert nursing for your safety and well-being
Our Department of Anaesthesiology at Heidelberg University Hospital attaches particular importance to the qualified nursing and support of our patients in all specialist disciplines - before, during and after surgical, interventional, diagnostic and outpatient procedures. We care for our patients in the central operating theatre, in the outpatient operating theatre, in radiology and in emergency care in the shock room. The nursing staff are a central part of the anaesthesiology team and use their specialist knowledge, empathy and commitment to ensure that patients feel they are in good hands and receive the best possible care at all times.
Our nursing staff work closely with the doctors to ensure individual, safe and pleasant care. They are your point of contact before, during and after anaesthesia or regional anaesthesia and are always available to answer any questions or uncertainties you may have.
Our anaesthesia nurses play a central role in a variety of areas, for example in
- Preparations for all anaesthesia and regional anaesthesia

- Care during anaesthesia, monitoring of vital parameters and organ functions, including ventilation
- Use of extended monitoring options
- Assistance with special procedures such as fibreoptic intubation or complex surgical procedures
- Emergency care
- Post-operative care in the recovery room including pain management in close cooperation with the acute pain service (ASD)
