Nursing in the Clinic for Anaesthesiology

Anaesthesia, intensive care medicine, emergency medicine and pain therapy

The Department of Anaesthesiology at Heidelberg University Hospital is responsible for all surgical, interventional, diagnostic and outpatient areas associated with the "elimination of pain". The speciality covers techniques for the elimination of consciousness, pain therapy, intensive care medicine and emergency medicine. In special cases, palliative medicine is also integrated into our range of services. It is important to us that our patients experience surgical procedures as stress-free as possible. Our nursing staff perform a variety of tasks in the operating theatre and are also responsible for the care of post-operative patients. Specialised training in accordance with the latest standards is required to carry out such tasks.

Our competent team ensures the smooth running of surgical anaesthesia in all departments of the Surgical Centre. We are also actively involved in intensive medical care and pain outpatient clinics. The NURSING employees are also involved in emergency care at the centre(INA).

The range of services thus covers the entire spectrum of perioperative NURSING, starting with support for doctors in risk assessment before the procedure, through support during intraoperative anaesthesiological therapies to postoperative care on the ward. In our premedication outpatient clinic, we are on hand to carry out a comprehensive individual risk assessment from an anaesthesiological perspective. The advantages and disadvantages of the various anaesthesiological procedures are explained to patients and a tailored, personalised treatment concept is developed, in the implementation of which NURSING is actively involved.
