The course comprises 6 to 7 months of practical work and theoretical lessons.
What is the knowledge test?
The knowledge test is an examination for international nursing staff who wish to work in Germany. It serves to verify the equivalence of training or studies from abroad with German training. The examination consists of an oral and a practical part and is taken in German at a nursing school in Baden-Württemberg.
Procedure of the preparation course
- Practical work on a ward: You will work on a ward at the university hospital and receive continuous support from practical instructors.
- Practical support: A nursing educator accompanies you before the examination and prepares you for the practical part.
- Theoretical instruction: Parallel to your practical work, you will take part in 14 days of study at the Academy for Health Professions in Heidelberg. Topics include the nursing process, personal hygiene, prophylaxis and medical basics.
Completion of the knowledge test
After successful theoretical and practical preparation, you will take the knowledge test. If you pass, you will be recognised as a qualified nurse and can work as a qualified nurse in Germany.
