The Interdisciplinary Emergency Outpatient Clinic of the Head Clinic

The head clinic's interdisciplinary emergency outpatient department is an essential part of emergency care at the university hospital. Every year, we treat around 29,000 emergency patients who come to us from various medical fields. These include neurology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, ear, nose and throat medicine (ENT) and oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMF). Our outpatient clinic is not only a central point of contact for acute medical emergencies, but also plays a key role in supra-regional stroke care. The majority of all transfers of patients requiring treatment for a stroke go through our emergency outpatient department. We are also responsible for shock room care, which means that we provide fast and effective emergency care to patients from all of the head clinic's specialist departments.

During the initial assessment, a crucial step in our treatment process, each emergency patient is assigned an urgency level. This assessment enables us to allocate patients to the individual specialist departments according to their needs and thus initiate targeted treatment.

Highly qualified specialists from various disciplines work closely together in our interdisciplinary team. This close co-operation is of the utmost importance in order to offer our patients the best possible care. Our aim is not only to make a rapid diagnosis, but also to organise the further course of treatment quickly and efficiently. Whether it's an admission to the inpatient area, a necessary transfer to another specialist department or a discharge to further GP care - we do everything we can to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care and feel that they are in good hands in their difficult situation. We are proud to be able to make such an important contribution to healthcare and are always on hand to help and advise our patients.
