"WE HAVE AN OVERVIEW" ...
Our team works every day to preserve or restore our patients' vision.
Cataract surgery is one of the most common procedures worldwide, and we also offer state-of-the-art femtosecond laser-assisted procedures on request. When selecting artificial lenses, we attach great importance to individualised calculation and fitting in order to best meet the wishes and needs of our patients. Our options in this area are almost limitless.
Of course, we also treat a variety of other eye diseases and complaints. These include glaucoma, retinal detachment, corneal surgery and surgery for strabismus. We also perform eyelid surgery to correct malpositions of the eyelid and treat various tumours in the eye area.
Our dedicated team consists of 10 to 12 specialists, including operating theatre assistants (OTA), medical assistants (MFA) and nurses. Despite the short operating times, we endeavour to achieve a high number of operations, whereby fast and precise procedures are of crucial importance.
Our common goal requires close cooperation - we work for each other and with each other to ensure the best possible care for our patients. We live this cooperation every day.
OP Department ENT
The operating theatre is part of everyday life in ENT
The ENT clinic's surgical department is located in the central operating theatre of the head clinic. Depending on the day of the week, the ENT Clinic has 3-4 operating theatres. In addition, a "high volume" theatre is used on 3 days of the week, where two anaesthesia teams are available. This is where operations of short duration are performed.
Our operating theatre team is made up of healthcare and nursing staff with specialist training in operating theatres, surgical assistants and healthcare and nursing staff.
Four practice instructors are available for the ENT operating theatre department to instruct and familiarise trainees and new employees. In addition, the department has two trained employees for the instruction of technical equipment.
The operating theatres are equipped with a wide range of technical equipment to support operations. This includes modern surgical microscopes, which are used for a wide range of ENT procedures, a CO2 laser, neuromonitoring devices for intraoperative nerve monitoring, endoscopy towers with navigation units and other equipment.
The surgical spectrum includes interventions in the following areas:
- Otology: Operations on the outer ear (anthelixplasty, ear canal surgery), the middle ear (tympanoplasty and stapesplasty) and the inner ear (cochlear implant) through to operations on the base of the skull (mastoidectomy).
- Laryngology: Operations on the larynx with voice-improving procedures and treatment of stenoses and tumours in the vocal cord area.
- Rhinology: Operations on the nasal septum (septoplasty), the bone-supported nose (septorhinoplasty) and endoscopic surgery of the paranasal sinuses.
- Oncology: Includes a variety of tumour diseases in the head and neck area with various reconstruction options such as epitheses of the ear and nose, free flap plastics such as the forearm flap or pedicled flap plastics such as the pectoralis major flap.

OP Department Neurosurgery
Comprehensive range of brain and spinal interventions
At the Heidelberg Neurosurgery Department, you can expect a comprehensive range of brain and spinal interventions, totalling around 3,500 operations per year. Patients of all ages, from infants to geriatric patients, are treated here.
In our 4 operating theatres, which are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, we are not only able to carry out numerous different procedures during the day, but are also always ready to provide emergency care at night and at weekends.
In our various sections, we treat brain tumours of all origins, vascular interventions, spinal surgery and paediatric surgery. Our special surgical procedures include awake craniotomy, in which the patient talks to our surgical team during intracranial surgery; deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's patients and interstitial laser thermotherapy (LITT), in which the tumour tissue can be heated using a minimally invasive laser probe and the treatment can be followed in real time during an MRI scan.
Intrauterine interventions, i.e. neurosurgical interventions on unborn babies, are also among the specialities offered by our centre.
Our work is supported by a wide variety of state-of-the-art technology every day. The majority of our surgical procedures are performed microsurgically under high-performance microscopes, with computer-assisted neuronavigation and intraoperative MRIs and CTs, which we can operate in our operating theatres. Electrophysiological neuromonitoring during operations on sensitive brain and nerve regions is also part of our standard procedure. In combination with our expertly trained team, we are able to provide our patients with comprehensive treatment.
